Online Safety Commission commences operations introducing statutory torts for online harms.

Starting 29 June 2026, the Online Safety Commission (OSC) will operate under the Online Safety (Relief and Accountability) Act 2025. The framework establishes statutory torts and redress mechanisms for five priority categories of online harm, including doxxing and intimate image abuse.

New binding directions and criminal penalties for non-compliance with online content restrictions.

The Commissioner of the OSC is empowered to issue binding directions to both individual perpetrators and online platforms to restrict harmful content. Failure to comply with these directions now constitutes a criminal offence.
